We can see from the extensive fossil record that plants and animals have been inhabiting the Earth for millions and millions of years. 

Both plants and animals have evolved over time to take advantage of mutations that that were beneficial to the survival of the species. 

So how long ago did plants first develop flowers for the purpose of reproduction?
