What Makes Good Music Sound Good?

People tend to say that I have strange tastes in music because I like things from nearly every genre out there. 

To me music is music and genres are just a simpler way to categorize albums in the record store. 

But why do some people only prefer one or two music types over the others? 

An even bigger question is why do we humans like some note combinations (or chords), but despise others? 

Is there a formula for good music?
